Probe ordered into CCpur mishap

IMPHAL, Jan 19: Taking serious note of the tragic mi-shap that took place at Seh- ken village, Churachandpur district in which 23 people dies and 28 injured, Works Minister K Ranjit has ins-tructed Commissioner (Works) to institute an enquiry.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, K Ranjit conveyed that the Commissioner (Works) has also been ins-tructed submit the enquiry report within a week.

In case the tragic acci-dent was a result of com- placency or inefficiency of the PWD employees, any responsible employee will not be spared.

On the other hand, due to non-completion of excava-tion works for the Imphal Sewerage Project in the main streets of Imphal town, black-topping work cannot be taken up even as all ne-cessary materials are availa- ble at present, Ranjit added.
Meanwhile, NCP Mani-pur Pradesh, while asser- ting that the bridge on which the mishap took place was inaugurated only a few months back with the permission/knowledge of the Works Minister, has demanded resignation of Works Minister K Ranjit on moral ground. It also de-manded befitting action against engineers and con-tractors concerned.

The NCP also shared the pain and grief being en-dured by the families of the mishap victims.

Insisting that the State Government should accept responsibility for the tragic accident, the KSO urged that the families of the vic-tims should be duly com- pensated and the treatment cost of those injured should be borne by the State Government.

It also lambasted the State Government for its lack of concern for the safety and well being of the people.

While condoling the death of passengers and sharing the grief of those injured in the January 17 Sehken tragedy, the All Colleges Tribal Students Organisation, Manipur (ACTSOM) has maintained that the Minister concerned and the district authority should either take up quality control measures on war footing or tender resignation immediately on moral ground.

It also asked the State Government for immediate payment of compensation to the next of kin of the deceased victims and also to the injured ones.
