" RAHUL MOIRANGTHEM is INNOCENT ”

Delhi Police vs Committee for Justice

New Delhi, July 24, 2015 – “Rahul Moirangthem (19), a student of XII standard in Mount Carmel School, New Delhi has been languishing in Tihar Jail on falsification by Delhi Police”.
This was stated today during the press conference at Press Club of India by the Committee for Justice and Release of Rahul Moirangthem (CJRR) which constitutes a research scholar and student activist from JNU Mr Thothuingam Shinglai, Dr Alana Golmei of North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESCH), Mr David Boyes of North East India Forum Against Racism (NEIFAR), Mr Roshmani, advocate, and Ms Supriya Moirangthem, sister of Rahul Moirangthem.
Rahul and his two friends, who tried to take photographs infront of the main gate of their school on the night of May 28, 2015 at around 9PM were apprehended by Delhi Police, who were present outside of the school gate. Two of his friends were later released on the ground of juvenile while Rahul was held back by the cops.
Rahul Moirangthem has been arrested in connection with the alleged vandalizing of Holy Child Auxilium School in Poorvi Marg, Vasant Vihar, south Delhi. This incident occured on 13 Feb 2015 at around 3AM.
Delhi Police gave out wrong information to the mainstream media which was widely published across the country on July 14, 2015.
Some of the headlines carried by the mainstream media were:-
“Police claims to have solved burglary of Auxilium School”
“No hate crime, school in Vasant Vihar was burgled”
“Teenager held for church break-in”
“19-yr-old held for theft at Holy Child Auxilium School”
“Manipuri youth arrested for theft, social media cries foul”
“Burglary at Delhi school solved, Manipuri youth arrested”
“Teen arrested for vandalism at Delhi church school”
“Delhi: Manipuri student arrested for theft in Holy Child Auxilium School”
“He also targeted alma mater”
and the headlines still goes on…….
CASH REWARD OF RS 50,000!!!!
A police officer says as per media reports:
“Identified as Rahul Moirangthem, who hails from Manipur, but was staying at Nanak Pura on rent, the accused and two of his friends had raided Holy Child Auxilium School as a drunken afterthought after an outing in mid-February, said R S Krishnia, Joint CP (Southeast range).
The incident on the night of February 12, a senior police officer recalled, had triggered a political hue and cry across the Capital with members of the Christian community alleging vindictiveness.
The Delhi Police had then declared a cash reward of Rs. 50,000 on the heads of its perpetrators, two of whom still remain at large. The case was transferred to the Special Task Force (STF) of the South district.”
How can Rahul vandalized Holy Child Auxilium School on Feb 13, 2015?
On Feb 13, 2015 afternoon, Rahul appeared for Special Revision Examination in his back subject — Accountancy. This was proved and testified by his class teacher who wrote: “Rahul appeared for test on 13-2-15”.
Rahul was forcibly made to sign on 4 blank sheets by Delhi Police and his fingerprints were also taken on 4 different papers on the night of 29 May 2015!
Rahul is not aware of the existence of Holy Child Auxilium School and has never been there.
But police alleged that Rahul’s fingerprint matches with a fingerprint found in the principal’s office of Holy Child Auxilium School!
Rahul’s family said Delhi Police has taken Rahul twice to Holy Child Auxilium and was being videotaped each time.
Various mainstream media reported on July 14 says “Rahul had hit his girlfriend with a beer bottle when she wanted to break up with her. She suffered a serious injury to her eye and remained hospitalized for a month”.
While Rahul’s family says his girlfriend has given us a video clip stating that it was not a beer bottle actually it was plastic water bottle which accidentally hit her head while Rahul was passing it to her.
Media also reported “Rahul admitted that he entered Delhi Tamil Education Association School. They had escaped after the guards got suspicious”.
But Rahul completed Class X from South India Baptist Matriculation School in Coimbatore, run by a Bible College.
Media reported “Rahul is feared by everyone in Mount Carmel School, South Campus”.
What does Rahul’s friends said today during the press conference?
“Rahul is an innocent and kind person. We love him very much. We want justice for Rahul….” they demanded.
Friends of Rahul started a signature campaign for Rahul. Many of his classmates are supporting for the justice of Rahul and are willing to speak in media and other platform.
In the first FIR registered (u/s 457/380/34 IPC 1860) in Vasant Vihar Police Station (South Distt.) by the Principal of Holy Child Auxilium School on 13 Feb 2015 states: “On Friday 13th February 2015, Holy Child Auxilium School, Poorvi Marg, Vasant Vihar School Principal’s office and administrative office were found broke open. This was noticed by the mid around 6AM. CCTV cameras were damaged and disconnected. The children’s charity Boxes kept in the school office were broken and cash found missing. From the Principal office approximately Rs. 12,000/- is missing. A few confiscated mobiles of the students were also found missing. The almirah drawers are also found open. The back door of the school auditorium has also been broke open. It seems someone who knows well about the school campus is involved. ”
Here it clearly mentioned that “someone who knows well about the school campus is involved”.
Is Rahul familiar of this school?
“No Rahul had never been and knew either,” says Rahul’s family.
The Principal of Mt Carmel School issued as certificate which states “Rahul Moirangthem has done no harm/damage or any physical injury either to the School property or to any staff”.
If so, how could Rahul harm others?
The second FIR was registered (u/s 457/380/511/34 IPC 1860) in South Campus Police Station in the name of ASI Ram Niwas on 29 May 2015.
Rahul belongs to a Christian family and it is hard to believe he involved in vandalizing a Christian institute.
Of course, there was many media reports on incidents of vandalizing Christian institutes and churches by anti-Christians earlier this year.
Is Rahul, a Christian boy, being implicated as a scapegoat by Delhi Police?
“All these allegations have been wrongly cooked up by the cops to tarnish/harm the social image of Rahul Moirangthem and strengthen the case of Holy Chld Auxilium School,” the Committee for Justice and Release of Rahul Moirangthem (CJRR) stated.
The Committee for Justice and Release of Rahul Moirangthem (CJRR) has strongly objected and condemned the arrest of an innocent northeast youth, Rahul Moirangthem on the charge of fabricated stories.
The committee also appeal justice for Rahul; demanding an immediate release from incarceration unconditionally, take strong action against police involved in implicating innocent Rahul; and media should write the real stories of Rahul Moirangthem.
Where is JUSTICE for RAHUL MOIRANGTHEM?

Gangte Social Meet held in Delhi

Gangte Social Meet held in Delhi

Bruce K. Thangkhal

New Delhi, October 3, 2010: The Gangte Welfare Association Youth Wing Delhi held its XVIth Freshers’ cum Social Meet on October at RK Puram MTNL Community Hall in South Delhi. Over 500 people from the capital flocked together. The hall suddenly turned into a full-packed crowd.

Guest View

“Today, Gangte, one of the recognised tribes in Manipur state, is a buzz-word for those aspiring for civil service exams. Known for its least populace, but the number of civil servants from Gangte tribe is quite amazing. They occupied the top slot of ‘success story’ in IAS, IPS, IFS, IRS, etc among the ‘ZO’ origins – Chin, Kuki, Mizo and Zomi – in comparison to population wise,” told an outsider Muan to this reporter.

Welcome speech

Gangte Welfare Association Youth Wing Delhi president Ellen Lunnieng in her speech welcomes the chief guest, guest of honour, and other delegates. The president also extended her warm greetings to each and everyone for attending the function. “Freshers Meet is being organised to make a good relationship, brotherhood and unity,” the president said. “We the leaders are ready to help our members at any time.”

Token of gratitude

On behalf of the association as a token of love and gratitude, Ellen Lunnieng presented the traditional shawl to Shri B. K. Gangte, IFS, conservator of forest, Government of Uttarakhand and Shri Lalkithang, deputy secretary, Lok Sabha who graced the function as the chief guest and guest of honour respectively.

Prayer for freshers

The Youth Wing secretary William conducted the introduction round of freshers. The new comers introduced themselves before the crowded eyes. After that, Gangte Christian Fellowship Delhi secretary Pastor Wilson cited “Commit they way unto the Lord; trust also in him, and he shall bring it to pass.” Pastor Wilson prayed for heaven’s blessing for the new faces.

Words for all

Speaking on behalf of the senior students, Miss Nunmawi gave a piece of advice to the freshers saying, “One must have good personality. Don’t think of negative attitudes. To compete with others one must have a competitive mindset. Let our prayers be the key for the day in the mornings and the lock at nights.”

In his exhortation speech, Dr. M. L. Gangte said, “Students must grasp the quality of education. Remember, as you sow you shall reap the harvest. You should take clues from those successful persons of our community. Today you should follow the footprints of our brethren who are now serving as IAS, IPS, IFS, etc. A clever person learns from other’s mistake. Learn from others.”

Encouraging the youngsters Dr. Gangte also shared some of his experiences that while he was an MBBS student he could not joined the common mess due to his bad health. He said he used to prepare his own food throughout the year though bulky assignments and hefty projects overshadowed him. “Be ambitious towards your goal and constantly try for it. Only then you can achieve your aim,” said Dr. Gangte.

Guest of Honour: an impression for students

Speaking on the occasion, the guest of honour Lalkithang said, “Imagine yourself as a hunter in the forest. Success depends on you not on the target – big or small- that will transform your dream into reality.” The guest of honour, after competing MA (Sociology) from Delhi School of Economics in 2000, he topped the Research Officer exam in all India and also topped the Executive Officer Exam in ST category in 2003. He opted the latter and elevated to Deputy Secretary recently.

The Chief Guest : an exemplary for students

The chief guest Shri B. K. Gangte, IFS deliberately asked the students, “Why are you in Delhi? There should be appropriate reason to answer this. You, young students must study in a selfish way. No one can study for you and you cannot study for others. Always stay in your room, not in your friend’s so that you will have more time for reading.” He added, “Those who sincerely study hard will success at the end. One should pursue their aims with self-efforts and labours.”

Like the guest of honour, the chief guest also has a similar story. B. K. Gangte passed XII standard from Churachandpur College (Now the college is simply considered as a college for only ‘admissions’ and ‘examinations’). Graduated from Bhagalpur College of Engineering in Bachelor of Engineering, B. K. Gangte soon cracked the Indian Engineering Service exam and while he was in service he cracked Indian Forest Service exam and resigned from the former and joined the latter.

The entertainers

Special numbers from Miss Mary Jone and Mr. David Ngamminlien were very much a part of the day. They are absolutely the eyebrow-raisers of the crowd with their melodious songs. The heavy metal band like Apusei & Co and Lunsiem & Co rocked the entire hall with their high pitch lightning sounds and thundering drums. The young lady – Pinky – known as the ‘Shakira of Gangte’ shakes her legs on the stage, perplexing the eyes and ears of the crowd with her amazing skills.

Quiz and others

An open quiz competition was conducted with instant prizes given after the answer.Who is the first Bachelor of Arts among the Gangte [Lamzasoi, 1936]? Name the first village of Gangte in Manipur [Siampat]? So on the questions goes. A debate on ‘Education depends on the place’ heated the hall for awhile, in which the movers and opposers battled for supremacy. A traditional display of various tribal costumes was another curtain raiser of the day. It was the time every one rushes the stage. This idea was born out of two young ladies, Lucy and Diki. A meritorious award was also given to the members.

Election result

Among the 24 candidates including 15 male and nine female, Mr. Lunsiem, Mr. Pumlemsang, Mr. Mangkholun, Mr. Thangkhopau, Mr. Henry Hemminthang, Miss Thienhoih and Miss Lucy were the newly elected leaders of the youth wing.

Mr and Miss Fresher Contest

Over 50 freshers took part in the grand contest. Genminlien, a first year student of BA (Geog) in Bhagat Singh College bagged the coveted title Mr. Fresher whereas Miss Fresher crown goes to Vakbawi, a first year student of BA (Psychology) of Jesus and Mary College.

Best Traditional Attires

Among the audience, Mr. Muongboi Ronald, Miss Naro and master Lamlalhawl (son of Pr Wilson) bagged the best traditional attire awards in male, female and child category.

Delegates

Boveio, secretary general, Naga Students Union Delhi, Samuel Hmar, external coordinator, Hmar Students Association Delhi and other delegates also attended the function.

Dr T.S. Gangte Gold Medal

In memory of Dr. T. S. Gangte this award was instituted in Manipur University in 2007. The University accepted the proposed award. In 2008 January 8, Manipur University stated that Dr. T. S. Gangte Memorial Gold Medal will be awarded to the topper of the M.Sc. Anthropology examination in Social and Cultural Anthropology with effect from January, 2008. However, the University did not give the medal on its 30th Foundation Day Cum Medal Presentation Ceremony held at its campus on 5 June 2010. In protest against Manipur University’s decision, Gangte Welfare Association Youth Wing Delhi held a protest rally in the national capital on June 12, 2010. Dr. T. S. Gangte Memorial Gold Medal is now set to be awarded during Manipur University Convocation on October 13. Ms. Laisharam Sumati Devi is the topper for this award.

“Hopefully, the award will be given on Manipur University Convocation,” said Gin Gangte speaking over telephone from Manipur last night.

Tawmngaihna: The moral code

GWAD chairman S. Benjamin spoke on moral code ‘Tawmngaihna (selfless service)’. “We should develop a sense of responsibility in our society. Traditionally the Gangtes practised ‘tawmngaihna’ which became the foundation of social responsibility in the society,” Benjamin said. He had completed Bachelor of Divinity (BD) from Serampore. He is a Section Officer in the Ministry of Defence in New Delhi.

“I really enjoy the day. The president and the members are very friendly. The programme was very good and fantastic though I don’t understand the dialect,” says Anirban, a student activist from IGNOU.

The day-long event ended with boundless funfare and joy. The association humbly requested the audience to attend the dinner. Everyone then patched up in queue.

Manipuri Girl Molested By Restro Manager in New Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 31, 2010: A Manipuri woman was allegedly sexually assaulted by her manger in a restaurant in Connaught place in Delhi on August 24.

Preeti (name changed), belonging to a Naga community in Manipur had been working as a temporary waitress in WoW restaurant in the Connaught Place area of New Delhi District for the last three months. The woman claimed that she had allegedly been manhandled and assaulted by her manager at the restaurant. A medical examination was conducted after her allegations and a written complaint to the police. The police registered a case of molestation under IPC 354 and IPC 323 for hurt.

In her FIR registered at the CP Police Station the victim claimed that she had been assaulted and the manager had made sexual advances towards her. “The three stitches and the scratches on my body are all proof of the manager’s advances and behavior towards me,” she told the cops in her two page complaint.

According to Preeti, she was assaulted at the time when she was doing her duty on the first floor of the restaurant. “Suddenly our manager Rohit Sharma came in and grasped me tightly and tried to kiss me forcibly. At that moment, I pushed him back. I was humiliated and feel depressed,” said Preeti. She added, “Rohit Sharma beat me when I refused his advancement. Then he attached me with a fork,” she added. The victim and her brother reside in South Delhi. She came to Delhi to earn some money so that she could help her parents in Ukhrul in Manipur.

The accused Rohit Sharma denied all allegations leveled against him and said that Preeti had been framing her because he had scolded her for not keeping up with the restaurant discipline. “She was watching TV at a time when she should have been attending to customers. This is the reason why I scolded him and she later made this complaint,” he told the cops. Preeti denied this countercharge and said, “At that time, there was no customer. I have done all my work attentively.”

The cops hadn’t yet arrested the accused as they said that they were still recording statements from all other employees at the restaurant. “We have recorded statements some other employees at the restaurant and there are some small discrepancies in the sequence of events given by the woman and other employees. We will proceed based on the evidences in the matter,” a senior police officer from the district said. - Bruce K. Thangkhal

Two Manipuri Girls Cheated in Delhi Call Centre

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, August 11, 2010: In what could turn out to be a good lesson, two young northeast girls working at one Call Centre in New Delhi has been allegedly cheated by the manager without paying salary for over months.

The victims are in their early twenties hailing from Churachandpur in Manipur. Grace and Rose (names changed) joined an unknown Call Centre (BPO) on June 7 and regularly works in nightshift (8 pm to 5 am) till July 29. However, no appointment letters were issued in their name. A 15-day valid Offer-Letter was only given to Rose.

Grace told our Reporter yesterday, “The Company was run by a couple - Rohit and Sneha (names changed). The couple promised me a salary of Rs. 7000 per month while my friend Rose has experienced in BPO, so her salary is fixed at Rs. 9000 per month. They also promised us that Attendance Bonus carries a reward of Rs. 1000.”

“After completing one-month, our manager keeps on delaying our salaries. We requested them patiently, but they didn’t pay heed to us. They make many excuses to avoid our salaries. Thus it took almost a month, and we came to realise that we won’t get our salaries. So we decided to quit our job,” Rose said helplessly.

Rose further says, “In our first meeting, Sneha told us that our working days will be Monday to Friday but we worked till Saturday. She also promised us salary will be paid in between 7th and 10th of every month.”

On July 26, Grace and Rose informed their manager-cum-owner Sneha that she did not fulfill the promises she made to them. They said to Sneha, “We intended to quit now”. Without bothering them at that moment, Sneha plainly answered, “As you wish”. That was the last talk between the manager and the duo-victims.

“Some of our colleagues who worked for less than a week or month were even paid well. But most of the Northeast employees were ill-treated and discriminated in paying their salaries. Many of them left the company without getting their salaries. And no one complains so far,” alleged Grace.

When North East Support Centre & Helpline Spokesperson Madhu Chandra contacted, he said, “NE Helpline has received such cases in the past. We should be careful while seeking jobs. We should always look for the authentic companies. I request NE youngsters to be serious and careful in selecting jobs in the capital.”

“Now we can’t talk to the managers through their mobile phone. They didn’t pick-up our calls anymore. We don’t know what to do. They are hiding from us,” alleged Grace’s sister, who works in a fashion shop in New Delhi. She added, “If anyone can help us, we’ll be very happy. We don’t know what steps to take further.”

The alleged BPO Company is said to be located in Dwarka. The name of the company is not yet known. Around five to six people were employed in the company.

Two men who came to visit Mercy were also merciless beaten. People from North East India are severely facing racial attack and discrimination in Delhi and NCR continuously without any measurement taken by the government and police forces.

A source reaching to North East Support Centre & Helpline says that Marcy (name changed) age 28-years-old is wife of an Indian army from Manipur posted at Lucknow, is nursing a two-months-old baby, residing at Sikanderpur, Gurgaon, Haryana. Incident happened when her a lady friend visited at around 9 PM along three boys from her village in Manipur who were leaving next day for study at Bangalore. Dalit ‘Christians and Muslims’ demand SC Status

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, July 22, 2010: In demanding Scheduled Caste status under Indian Constitution, the Christians and Muslims of Dalit communities held rally here in Parliament Street on July 21.

The rally was organised by the National Council of Dalit Christians (NCDC), Catholic Bishops Conference of India (CBCI), National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahza, and All India Jamiat-Ul-Hawareen.

Denial of Constitutional Rights
The third paragraph of the Constitution (Scheduled Caste) Order of 1950, popularly known as the Presidential Order, stipulates that “no person who professes a religion different from Hinduism shall be deemed to be a member of Scheduled Caste.”

This Order has been amended twice; once in 1956 to include Dalit Sikhs in Scheduled Caste and later in 1990 to include the Dalit Buddhists. But Christians and Muslims of Dalit origins were left behind. This denied them the status in accordance with the deprivations that they face. They suffer social exclusion in every sphere of life. Dalit Christians has been fighting against this draconian order for over 60 years.

Rev. Fr. A. X. J. Bosco S.J., Advisor, National Council of Dalit Christians, said, “Most of the political parties, except BJP has supported our demand. Till now twelve State Governments and Union Territories have recommended to Union of India for granting the SC status to the Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims.”

“On 22 April, 2010, National Commission for Scheduled Castes had fully acknowledged and endorsed the recommendation of the National Commission for Religious and Linguistic Minorities (NCRLM) concerning the deletion of Paragraph 3 of the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order 1950 for extending the Scheduled Castes status to Christians and Muslims of Scheduled Castes Origin,” Fr. Bosco added.

Members of the organisation told our reporter that the Order of 1950 is inconsistent with Article 14, 15, 16 and 25 of the Constitution that guarantee equality of opportunity, freedom of conscience and protect the citizens from discrimination by the State on grounds of religion, caste or creed.

Rev. Raj Bharath Patta, Executive Secretary, National Council of Churches in India, said, “Today we are protesting peacefully in demanding our constitutional rights. A Writ Petition No. 180/2004 praying for the deletion of the said Para 3 is still laying pending in the Supreme Court, for the past 6 years and the Congress government has not given any answer so far, to the query of the Supreme Court. Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims must be given their legitimate rights without further delaying.”

In 1929 Christians of depressed classes of South India submitted a Memorandum to the Simon Commission for the first time. The depressed class spoke to the Commission, raises the issues, and reports about the sufferings of Dalit Christians in India.

Dalit Christians and Dalit Muslims all over India are greatly disappointed over unjustifiable delay by the Congress led UPA Government in implementing the Justice Ranganath Misra Commission’s recommendations.

The National Council of Dalit Christians demands the Central Government to take an urgent action on the NCRLM report, particularly to the Additional Term of Reference for granting the Scheduled Christians and Muslims of Scheduled Castes Origin.

The Council also demands appropriate answer should be given to the query of the Supreme Court to the Writ Petitions demanding deletion of the unjust paragraph 3 of the Constitution Scheduled Castes Order 1950’ and to extend Scheduled Caste status to Muslims and Christians of Scheduled Caste Origin.

New Testament Bible in Thangkhal dialect released

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, July 20, 2010: In a significant event for the Thangkhal peoples, a New Testament Bible in Thangkhal dialect has been released in Manipur for the first time on July 18. The Thangkhals who did not have Church for more than 40 years and Bible for almost 30 years in the past could now leap in boundless joy.

Brief history

‘Thangkhal is a dialect-based community in Manipur. The word ‘Thangkhal’ derives from its village name, somewhere in Kawlgam, in which the Zous and Sukte tribes settled together in olden days. Haidawi, Khodai, Khuongnung, Tungkuo and Thangkhal are considered as the composite dialects of Zou tribe.

Thangkhal comprised of different clans practising same custom, culture and tradition from time immemorial. This lesser-known group ranging from 2000-3500 population identified themselves as ‘Thangkhal’ is constantly seeking tribe recognition; while the majority of them strongly advocated that they belong to Zou tribe. Thangkhal dialect is closely related to Paite, Tedim and Zou dialect.

The Thangkhal fore-fathers set-up their first home at ‘Mulam village’ in the southern part of Churachandpur, the exact year is yet unknown. Mulam, literally means ‘an eagle casting over its prey’.

Early Church
The first Thangkhal church ‘Thangkhal Christian Association’ was established on April 4, 1981 at M. Tanglian village, about 15 kms away from Lamka town (Churachandpur). Since then the Thangkhal peoples unified in one denomination. M. Tanglian is the new location of Mulam. The initial ‘M’ stands for Mulam.

Arrival of the Gospel
Known for their fierce ‘head hunting’, the villages of Thangkhals remained untouched for many decades. These dreaded warriors in Churachandpur hills received the gospel in 1939. A pastor from Evangelical Convention Church (Now EBCC) called ‘Thawngluan’ landed at T. Khazang village on March 7, 1939. This hamlet soon became the epicentre of Christianity in ‘Thangkhal Kual’, the hilly lands occupied by the Thangkhals in Manipur.

Organisations
In Manipur, Thangkhal Peoples’ Organisation and Thangkhal Youth Organisation was formed in 1978. The Zomi Fins (music band) formed in 1985 and Thangkhal Sinlai Pawlpi (students’ union) in 1987.

The Bible
Earlier several attempts failed to obtain the permission of Bible translation. For the first and the foremost in the history of Thangkhals, a New Testament Bible in Thangkhal dialect has been remarkably released by Rev. Dr. Z. K. Rochil, Auxiliary Secretary, Bible Society of India, Dimapur at Churachandpur’s Thangkhal Bible Church in Tuibuang village on July 18, 2010. Over 1000 crowd gathered at the historic event.

Rev. Dr. Zaihmingthanga, Assistant Director, BSI, Shillong, who tirelessly paved ways for Bible translation, could not attend the gathering. He send his greetings to the Thangkhals. The Thangkhal Bible Church has expressed their ‘heartfelt thanks’ to him.

On this auspicious day, Dr. Rochil encouraged the gatherings: “I want the Thangkhals should have a complete Holy Bible atleast during my tenure. I am ready to help the Thangkhals as much as I can in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” The audience applauded Dr. Rochil’s words.

Speaking to our reporter over telephone from Manipur yesterday, a senior Thangkhal Bible Church leader Rev. Khaikhanthang, said “20,000 Bible has arrived now. One would be priced at Rs. 50. We are overwhelmed by the new Bible. We are very happy so much so that we could not express our happiness. Too see the much-awaited Bible for over many decades, is really amazing.”

“The news of the arrival of Thangkhal Bible touched each and every corner of the Thangkhals in Manipur. People sang jubilantly on this day. Everyone is happy to see the Bible. Even the Sunday collection on the releasing day touched Rs. 3945. This is the largest collection in a single day so far,” he added.

“It’s really great to have Bible in our own dialect. We’ve waited for so long,” says Mr. Kammuanmung, a Ph D student in JNU, New Delhi.

Behind the successful of this newly released Bible, the worth-mentioning prominent Thangkhals were Shri Ginsuanhau, President, United Zou Organisation, Manipur, for contributing Rs. 50,000; Shri Khamthang, Chief of Zoukhonuam and Shri Thangkhenhang, Chief of S. Zezaw village, for contributing Rs. 5000 each. From faith promised Rs. 10,000 collected and another Rs. 10,000 gathered from various sources. These are the total cost of the released Bible. One New Testament Bible cost Rs. 40 in printing.

Rev. Ginkhankap, B.A., M. Th., began the New Testament translation in May 2006. The same translator is preparing to carry out the next herculean task for another five or six years.

Three Northeast boys held in Delhi, Others beaten

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, June 5, 2010: Just barely seven days after one northeast girl was beaten in Munirka, yet this time, a local resident was beaten up by three northeast boys after he allegedly dumped their motorbike here in Munirka on Friday night.

The incident happened around 9.30 pm at Munirka in South Delhi. The three arrested were Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi (names changed). They were in their mid 20’s, residing in Munirka. They all belong to Manipur.

According to Mangboi, he parked his brother’s motor-bike properly at one corner nearby his residence in Munirka. Soon after, a local resident of Munirka, Rajesh (name changed) allegedly pushed down his bike. The bike got damages. A heated argument broke between Rajesh and Mangboi. At that moment, Rajesh show-off his physical strength and held his fist tightly as if hitting at Mangboi. Thus Mangboi suddenly struck at Rajesh’s face. Rajesh got minor injuries. Lalboi and Lianboi, who tried to calm the situation, also joined their brother in protecting from the rude hands of Rajesh.

The ugly incident occurred after the motor-bike was parked, one maruti car came on the road while one cycle-rickshaw came on the other side of the road. Then the road seems to be tighted. However, the bike was not a disturbance to any vehicle passing by. The car driver gets down from his car and physically assaulted the rickshaw-puller without any reason. In the meanwhile, Rajesh unnecessarily involved in the incident and created the trouble.

“Rajesh is a self-styled boss in the locality, who had been already arrested by the police twice. He belongs to a rich family,” said an insider on the condition of anonymity.

After awhile, Rajesh brought a gang of 20-30 musclemen accompanied by three policemen storms the residence of the three northeast boys in Munirka. Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi were pulled out of their home. The musclemen began thrashing and smashing them before the eyes of the police. The three NE boys were carried away by the police in a van. They were also severely beaten by the locals inside the police station. The police became a mere spectator in this unlawful assault inside police thane. Only Rajesh has been sent to Safdarjang hospital for medical test.

Showing his swollen face, Mangboi told our reporter: “See, Look at my eyes and cheek, it is swollen. Three of us were beaten mercilessly by the local guys here inside the police station. We are lucky, they did not kill us.”

“We were repeated punched, smashed and slapped inside the police station. Police did not stop them. There is one CCTV camera on the wall. That can be the only proof,” Lianboi said.

When Mr. Mimin, General Secretary, Kuki Students Organisation Delhi raised this unlawfully attacks to the police officers, the police refuted his claims and considered as false allegations.

Soon after hearing the incident, Mr. Luikang Lamak, President, Naga Students Union Delhi and Mr. CL. Anung, Senior Member, NSUD rushed to Vasant Vihar Police Station at 11 pm. Mr. Lamak and Mr. Anung were brutally attacked by the locals at the gate. Some of the police were also present, but they did not help them.

Instantly, Lamak informed the SHO Ved Prakash about the attacks. The SHO and some senior police rushed to the gate and red-handed two of the local men, who spear-headed the local mobs.

“As soon as we arrived at the gate, there were many local people. Two fat men suddenly attacked us. The rest keep on hitting us. My friend, Anung was punched at his face and slapped repeatedly by them. If the SHO did not turn-up, they will kill us,” lamented Luikang Lamak, President, Naga Students Union Delhi.

The angry local residents of Munirka and their Panchayat leaders with some 40-50 musclemen stormed the police station. They are shouting and roaring outside the gate for five to six hours. On the other side, students from northeast communities flocked together at the police station gate confronting the local people, who were ready for violent attacks towards the northeast people. Atlast, the police dispersed the crowd. The local people flocked together within a minute.

Right from the arrests of Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi, Mr. Mimin, General Secretary, KSO Delhi took the initiative and vehemently complaints the wrongful deeds of the local residents of Munirka. He even argues the police officers for their negligence shown to the northeast people. But his grievances were unheard.

Due to the efforts of KSOD General Secretary, Mangboi and his friend were atlast taken to Safdarjang hospital for medical test. The medical report clearly shows the injuries of Mangboi’s eye and his swollen face.

The SHO Ved Prakash assured that action will be taken according to law. “Those two guys who attacked the NSUD President and NSUD Senior Member will also be booked” he added.

Mr. Samuel Hmar, Ext. Coordinator, Hmar Students Association Delhi urged the students’ leaders, “We should call our friends as many as possible at this moment. A big numbers has always greater voice. We must unite in fighting for justice.”

The bike owner Mr. Siama, Mr. Luikang and Mr. Anung were also intended to file cases against the local residents of Munirka.

Unbelievingly, the local residents of Munirka can enter the gate at any time and flooded the police station, while the gate remains closed to the northeast students last night. In this regard, no cases have been registered yet till 3 am this morning.

Now the northeast communities living in Munirka felt insecure and unsafe. The Delhi Police must play their role impartially.

Another Northeast boy cheated in Delhi

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, May 30, 2010: Delhi has never ending crime, a 24-year-old Northeast boy has been cheated by a shop owner for more than a week here in Lado Sarai.

According to victim Manga (name changed), his computer monitor has been repaired by Mukesh (name changed), owner of electronics repairing shop in Lado Sarai since May 22. Mukesh promised him to solve the monitor’s problem and charged him Rs. 400. Manga paid the amount in full advance on the first encounter.

On the following day, Mukesh informed Manga that the repairing of monitor was over. Manga took his monitor later in the evening.

“The monitor did not at all when I tested at home. It shuts down completely. I call-up Mukesh. After awhile, he came and did some work, but nothing happens. So he promised me that he will come again by tomorrow morning with his equipments. He never turns up till today,” said Manga

Manga calls Mukesh several times, but Mukesh did not pick-up his calls. Once again, Manga approached Mukesh and requested him to repair perfectly. Mukesh had strongly rejected Manga’s fervent prayer on yesterday. Additional charges were also imposed by Mukesh in order to carry out the repairing works.

The distressed Manga reported the matter to Delhi Police at around 8 pm. A policeman arrived in his PCR Van immediately. Before the policeman, Mukesh made several allegations of Manga, but could not proof himself. Still Mukesh was adamant to his stand.

During this melee, Mukesh’s house owner tried to intervene in supporting his tenant. The policeman bluffs him off to ‘keep quiet’. And Mukesh was ordered to refund the money to his customer Manga. Mukesh began sobbing in tears saying that he has nothing. At last, the sympathizer house owner paid the money inlieu of Mukesh.

Manga lives with his brother and sister. He works in Gurgaon, his sister works in Delhi and his brother is a post-graduate student. They have been living here for the past two years.

A northeast girl molested in Delhi

(Delhi Unsafe for Northeast girls)

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, May 28, 2010: In a shocking incident, a 22-year-old boy allegedly beaten up a young Northeast girl in Munirka here on Thursday night.

An FIR has been lodged at the Vasant Vihar Police Station. The accused, Madlub Salmani was booked under section 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 323 (Voluntarily causing hurt) of Indian Penal Code (1860). The accused belongs to Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.

The incident took place infront of the Lucky Saloon at Babulal Chowk in Munirka. Babulal Chowk is a central point in Munirka, which the northeasterners themselves called ‘Airport’. Munirka is an uptown village in South Delhi, densely inhabited by the northeast communities.

According to the victim (name withheld), she went out from her room to buy shampoo at nearby shop. While she was talking to her friend infront of the Lucky Saloon at around 7.30 pm. The accused Madlub Salmani, a barber in Lucky Saloon, suddenly pushed her from her back so much so that she almost fell down into the drainage. When she politely asked the reason, the accused Salmani allegedly kicked her face with his legs and repeatedly punches here. The accused also hit the girl’s head with an iron rod but unluckily he missed her head. The victim sustained injuries on her left eye and head. She works in a private firm somewhere in Gurgaon and lives alone in Munirka for the past many years. Now the victim fears for her life.

At the spot, the lone eye-witnessed Luntinsat, Secretary, Kuki Students’ Democratic Front informed some of the N-E leaders, NE Helpline Spokesperson Madhu Chandra and his friends. Luikang Lamak, President, Naga Students’ Union Delhi immediately rushed to the spot and reported the matter to the Police Station in Vasant Vihar. When the police came, the accused fled from the scene.

The owner of Saloon, Lucky was then taken into detention for questioning the whereabouts of culprit. Soon after, the police nabbed the absconding culprit, Madlub Salmani.

The victim was brought to Safdarjang hospital for medical test, accompanied by Luntinsat, Secretary, KSDF and Ellen Lunniang, President, Gangte Welfare Association Youth Wing, Delhi. Various leaders from the northeast communities thronged the police station. Some others conveyed their strong supports through phone calls to Luikang, the man who leads the case.

Speaking to this reporter, Shri Pavan Kumar, Inspector of Police, Vasant Vihar Police Station, surprisingly said, “The accused did not show any repentant to his unlawful deeds against the victim. When a person committed offence for the first time, they usually have a certain amount of guilty feeling. But this man does not have such feeling at all.”

While asking if any danger could happen to the victim’s life in future, “No, no, there is no danger for the life of victim. Once the process began, the accused will remain in jail and will face the punishments according to law. Accordingly, the accused can be put behind the bars upto two years in maximum. Gradually he would realize his big mistake. Next time, he will think more than ten times before taking such drastic action,” the inspector replied positively to this reporter.

Inspector Kumar also added, “Prevention of ST/SC Atrocities Act cannot be applied in this case since the accused was not aware of the victim’s caste or community”.

Lalboi Baite, Vice President, Kuki Students’ Organisation Delhi also says a number of molestations, eve-teasing, physical assaults, passing lewd comments, etc meted out by the northeast women went unnoticed and unreported.

“The increasing crime against women in our national capital is a serious issue and it tends to move upwardly. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit must initiate new measures for the safety of women in general and particularly, the Northeast women.

A Northeast girl, residing in Munirka, who was brutally murdered at her room by a Ph D student of IIT Delhi in October last year had clearly shown the unsafety of Northeast girls. When it comes to the safety of women in Delhi, it is a big shame for India, the national capital is alarming with such crime,” says Luikang, a veteran Northeast student leader.

Now, the majority of the Northeast women living in Delhi felt unsafe and insecure more and more. The feeling of fear has over shadowed them especially those who are working late at night. The Delhi Police must tighten up their belt to make Delhi a safer place for women otherwise the capital would remain terrible for women.

Bruce K. Thangkhal
New Delhi, May 23, 2010: Over 100 key Christian leaders from different communities of Meitei, Chin, Kuki, Mizo, Zomi and Naga joined hands in prayer for peace in Manipur at the Apostles’ Methodist Church here on May 22. Most of the Christian denominations are based on this principle which led to enmity among us. Let’s pray to our God to remove such egotism. There are still many places in our country which needs the gospel of Christ. Let’s remember, God looks the inside not the outside appearance.”

Remarkably, people of various tribes namely, Rongmei, Mizo, Kuki, Zaliangrong, Tangkhul Naga, Meitei, Vaiphei, Hmar, Zou, Paite, Gangte, etc. shed their tears in prayers on the occasion in favour of restoring a lasting peace and tranquility in the state Manipur.

This is my constant prayer since Manipur appeared in the newspaper,” said Mr. Lamboi Suantak, Assistant Secretary, ZCF Youth Department, Delhi.

While one of the northeast ladies, Hahat Zou, who hails from Churachandpur working in Gurgaon’s Soul Cabin shop for the past five years shared her wishes: “Though I could not attend the prayer. I have been praying for peace in Manipur since March. We, the Christians have to play our roles in such situation. By only prayers we can heal Manipur. We should pray ceaselessly.” Miss Hat is well known for her helpful attitudes towards the northeast youngsters in getting jobs in Gurgaon.

Programme Convener Rev. Madhu Chandra fervently urged the people that we need God's guidance and wisdom to Central, Manipur Government and Civil bodies to bring the amicable solution, so that normal life will return to Manipur and peace, love, justice and harmony will prevail among all sections of societies. EBCC Delhi Pastor V. Nenglian had the closing prayer.

The ethnic Diasporas from Manipur living in Delhi also felt the importance of all the ethnics tribes from Manipur, living in Delhi and NCR have to realize the role in bringing peace in Manipur. They also decided to conduct a regular prayer meeting in Manipur and Delhi in the coming days.

The rented rooms are locked by the house owner and boys and girls forced out without any shelter.

Mr. Naresh has assured North East Support Centre & Helpline to book the culprit repeatedly.

This is the shame on police part, which has played this dirty game of delay and reluctant to take the complaint and book the culprits according to the law of the land. The very mindset of police is sole responsibility of such repeated crimes on northeast people. Failure to take the law on the culprits has given wrong signal to commit the crimes. Until and unless, police perform their duty irrespective of people and communities, northeast people in Delhi and NCR will continue to suffer. All the promises from Prime Minister of India, Home Minister, Delhi Chief Minister remind just in air and not materialise any of their commitment, in spite of the fact that racial discrimination face by the community has reached at peak.

Another North East Boy Attacked in Delhi

Racial Attack Continues in National Capital
FIR Registered Action Still Delay

New Delhi, November 6, 2009, 8:50 hrs : Grieve of gruesome killing of 19 years old Naga Girl by IIT Delhi student still to over come. Yet another Naga boy attacked in Delhi last night and injured. Racial attack continues in Delhi. Million dollar questions, “Will Sheila Dikshit Government and her police force able to stop the racial discrimination meted out to north east communities living in national capital.”

According to sources reaching to North East Support Centre & Helpline late last night says that while two Naga boys, belonging to Lotha tribes was coming by Auto Rickshaw in Kotla, South Delhi at around 10 PM, and few local men threw momos at them. Then Naga boys got down from Auto and confronted. After sorting out the matter among them and while two Naga boys started moving by Auto, few of the local men started pelting bricks on Naga boys. One was severely injured and informed to Kotla Police station.

The source further reports that police unlike earlier, took the boy who was injured and took to hospital for medical check up and latter registered FIR 314 under 325/323/34 sections of India Penal Code.

Speaking to Sub Inspector Ram Veer Singh of Kotla Police Station says, “No action has been taken up till filing of this report because the identities of culprits are not known.”

There seems still lacking willingness from police part to take up the immediate action to trace the culprits. Terming as unknown person and reluctance to investigate the case, passer by people who might have witness the crime or taking the victim along with police and try to identity could be best attempt on part of police officer on duty to trace the culprits.

Speaking to the victims and his friend that the culprits are unknown to them but their identity can be identified if they are presented before them. “Police could have taken the victim to the spot and should have tried to identify the culprits or investigate from nearby people who witness the incident, which is not done by the police,” says Mr. Jami a friend of victim.

The case was taken to Kotla police station through the help of Naga Students’ Union Delhi under the leadership of Mr. Luikang Lamak, who also led the campaign for Ramchanphy Hongrei’s murder case.

Racial attack and discrimination seems not going to end in Delhi at least for North East communities. Girls are easily targeted for sexual abuses and assaults while the boys with physical attacks.

The repeated assurance given by Delhi Chief Minister Ms. Sheila Dikshit and Delhi police to North East communities is yet to see in reality. Honest in the assurance given is yet to be seen by the nation.

A strong message will be required to send out to the masses in Delhi and boys and girls from North East India are part of this country although they may look different and may speak different languages and they should not be treated different. Any offenders must be punished severely according to laws of the land. [nehelpline]

A Naga Couple from North East Was Severely Beaten in Delhi

Police Refused FIR and No Action Taken

New Delhi, October 12, 2009 : A Naga couple from North East India was severely beaten by localites in Delhi on late Saturday night. The complaint was denied initially by police officer on duty and registered complaint after 20 hours.

According to sources reaching to North East Support Centre & Helpline, the incident happened when Mr and Mrs Shimray who live in Dwarka went to visit their cousin living in Safdarjung Enclave in south Delhi. A group of drunken people abused the couple in car parking and passed racial and lewd remarks.

Later when checked the car parked in front of their cousin resident, the tyre was deflated. Shimray and his cousin were beaten up by the localites when they protested. Phone, money and even shirt were snatched away by the culprits.

The story does not end here. The police did not respond even the matter was reported to police helpline five times. Finally at around 2 AM police van arrived and refused to arrest the culprits rather abused the couple and Mrs. Shimray.

Till Sunday evening even after giving the written complaint to police officer on duty refused to register the complaint. Only after the pressure mounted on police officers on duty from student bodies and human rights activists, the complaint was lodged after 20 hour of the incident.

This is not the first time that North East Support Centre & Helpline has experienced the failure of Delhi and NCR police in handling the cased filed by north east communities. The north east communities have been ill-treated by localites and the more by police cops.

The failure of Delhi police to insure the safety to north east communities in Delhi and NCR is great concern. Boys, girls who migrated to Delhi for study and carrier are great fear of racial attack abuse. The fear is the more when the police cop fails to perform their duty to protect the north east communities.

Unless police machinery in Delhi and NCR ensure the safety of north easterners living in Delhi and NCR and provide the law of the land equally and punish the culprits, the north east communities will continue to suffer, abuse and attack. [nehelpline]

Tardy Award to Women’s World Boxing Champion Mary Kom

North East Support Centre & Helpline Salutes Mary Kom and Sarita Devi

New Delhi, July 21, 2009: Women’s World Boxing Champion Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom is nominated for Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award after much delay. The news of the Award nominated to Mary Kom and L. Sarita Devi for Arjun Award, brought joy particularly to North East communities and to whole women and sport personnel in general but raises huge questions on why the award to Mary Kom was delayed so long?

In an ESPN channel interview last night on Mary Kom’s nomination of Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna Award, unanswered question on “Why the award was not given earlier?” rises the doubt among the north east communities of step-motherly treatment to north east communities.

The delay of the award is the denied to most deserving sport personnel of the country. The delayed and denial of the award to Mary Kom earlier is a sign of racial discrimination, which is also faced by the north east communities in the country.

Mary Kom won four world champion title in 2002 held in Turkey, 2005 in Austria, 2006 in Delhi and 2008 in China. Mary Kom hails from India’s North Eastern Manipur state and belongs to a Kom tribe. [nehelpline]

NE Helpline Salutes Mizoram CM for Bold on Racism

More North East Political Bureaucratic should be Open on Racism

New Delhi, June 27, 2009: North East Support Centre & Helpline salutes Chief Minister of Mizoram Pu Lalthanhawla for his bold statement on racial discrimination meted out to himself and north east Indian communities. More political bureaucratic and civil societies must come openly on the reality of racism discrimination meted out to North East people.

The coming out openly on racial discrimination face by North East communities in different parts of India is long over due. North East Support Centre & Helpline is extremely glad that Chief Minister of Mizoram has openly expressed the issue in his press conference in Singapore. Pu Lalthanhawla would have conducted his press conference else where in India, the wide coverage and the issue would have been suppressed or ignored.

North East Support Centre & Helpline has appealed to North Eastern political elected members of Parliament many a time to take up the issues of racial discrimination faced by their communities in Delhi and NCR with Delhi and Central Government but most kept blind eyes.

The racial discrimination faced by the North East Indian communities in all over the country has their different forms. Definitely, Delhi and National Capital Region go beyond just lewd and bulgur racial remarks. Young girls are easily targeted in Delhi and NCR who have been physically and sexually assaulted while young boys are physically attacked and many are suspended from jobs without any prior notice or reasons. Many non-payment of salary by their employers are also reported.

The mindset of people is the root cause of the racial discrimination. The racist public of Delhi and NCR always counted North Easterners are strangers in their own country, cheap people and do whatever one like, none will bother.

What surprises the more is the racial discrimination from police duty officers when the victims and their colleagues discriminated went to register First Information Reports. In most of the cases, police refused to take the complaint and had to wait the media pressure.

Discrimination does not end their. After the complaints are registered, there comes the delay and manipulation by the public prosecutor of the cases taken up in the concerned courts in spit some of the cases supposed to be very speedy as booked under SC/ST Prevention of Atrocity Act 1995.

In reality, Indians can not survive racial discrimination in outside world, but back at home, the racism is very alive and rather it is more connected with caste apartheid of Indian society which existed for 3000 years. The United Nations’ Campaign against Racism at Durban in 2002, the casteism was termed worse than racism.

Thankfully, the issues of racism discrimination faced by the people of north east India in Delhi and NCR is taken well by the Indian media, without their help, the efforts of North East Support Centre & Helpline would have gone in vain. [

PAKISTAN Village Christians fast after deadly church attack

SANGOWALI, Pakistan (UCAN) -- Christians in a village fasted for three days after an attack on their community that resulted in one person dead and 10 injured.
Pastor Patras Masih of the United Presbyterian church in Sangowali village, northeastern Pakistan, on March 6, called for three days of fasting from March 11-13. The attack on his church and Christian families occurred on March 2.
In his address to Christians after prayers on March 6, he asked them to offer up the situation to God, as part of their fast.
On March 2, a group of 20 Muslims threw bricks at the church and then attacked Christian families in the vicinity. One of them, Shakeela Manzoor, 40, later died of head injuries.
Local Christians registered the case with the police. A local Muslim has been arrested since. Of Sangowali's 200 households, around 40 are Christian, mostly shoemakers.
The next day, the All Pakistan Minority Alliance (APMA), a grouping of minority political parties, organized a demonstration with collaboration from three local pastors in the village. More than 1,000 people blocked the main road for an hour and shouted, "Stop attacking churches, stop bullying Christians!"
Pastor Masih said on the sidelines of the rally: "It is sad that the death occurred during Lent. Manzoor, mother of three children, was lost because the assailants did not allow Christians to take the injured to the hospital in time." He added, "We asked people to dedicate their fast for a fair solution to our calamity."
The Protestant pastor said the attack destroyed window panes and a glass cross on the church tower.
Arif Khokar, APMA youth coordinator and brother of Manzoor, said the attack aimed at harassing the Christian minority after a Christian teenager reported to the police in late February of an attempt to sodomize him.
This is reportedly the fourth church attacked in the country this year. According to Shahbaz Bhatti, APMA chairman and the Federal Minister for Minorities, it is another attempt to create religious disharmony and anarchy. "I strongly condemn the unfortunate events during Lent. I have directed police to take action against those responsible," he said.
