New Delhi, June 5, 2010: Just barely seven days after one northeast girl was beaten in Munirka, yet this time, a local resident was beaten up by three northeast boys after he allegedly dumped their motorbike here in Munirka on Friday night.
The incident happened around 9.30 pm at Munirka in South Delhi. The three arrested were Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi (names changed). They were in their mid 20’s, residing in Munirka. They all belong to Manipur.
According to Mangboi, he parked his brother’s motor-bike properly at one corner nearby his residence in Munirka. Soon after, a local resident of Munirka, Rajesh (name changed) allegedly pushed down his bike. The bike got damages. A heated argument broke between Rajesh and Mangboi. At that moment, Rajesh show-off his physical strength and held his fist tightly as if hitting at Mangboi. Thus Mangboi suddenly struck at Rajesh’s face. Rajesh got minor injuries. Lalboi and Lianboi, who tried to calm the situation, also joined their brother in protecting from the rude hands of Rajesh.
The ugly incident occurred after the motor-bike was parked, one maruti car came on the road while one cycle-rickshaw came on the other side of the road. Then the road seems to be tighted. However, the bike was not a disturbance to any vehicle passing by. The car driver gets down from his car and physically assaulted the rickshaw-puller without any reason. In the meanwhile, Rajesh unnecessarily involved in the incident and created the trouble.
“Rajesh is a self-styled boss in the locality, who had been already arrested by the police twice. He belongs to a rich family,” said an insider on the condition of anonymity.
After awhile, Rajesh brought a gang of 20-30 musclemen accompanied by three policemen storms the residence of the three northeast boys in Munirka. Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi were pulled out of their home. The musclemen began thrashing and smashing them before the eyes of the police. The three NE boys were carried away by the police in a van. They were also severely beaten by the locals inside the police station. The police became a mere spectator in this unlawful assault inside police thane. Only Rajesh has been sent to Safdarjang hospital for medical test.
Showing his swollen face, Mangboi told our reporter: “See, Look at my eyes and cheek, it is swollen. Three of us were beaten mercilessly by the local guys here inside the police station. We are lucky, they did not kill us.”
“We were repeated punched, smashed and slapped inside the police station. Police did not stop them. There is one CCTV camera on the wall. That can be the only proof,” Lianboi said.
When Mr. Mimin, General Secretary, Kuki Students Organisation Delhi raised this unlawfully attacks to the police officers, the police refuted his claims and considered as false allegations.
Soon after hearing the incident, Mr. Luikang Lamak, President, Naga Students Union Delhi and Mr. CL. Anung, Senior Member, NSUD rushed to Vasant Vihar Police Station at 11 pm. Mr. Lamak and Mr. Anung were brutally attacked by the locals at the gate. Some of the police were also present, but they did not help them.
Instantly, Lamak informed the SHO Ved Prakash about the attacks. The SHO and some senior police rushed to the gate and red-handed two of the local men, who spear-headed the local mobs.
“As soon as we arrived at the gate, there were many local people. Two fat men suddenly attacked us. The rest keep on hitting us. My friend, Anung was punched at his face and slapped repeatedly by them. If the SHO did not turn-up, they will kill us,” lamented Luikang Lamak, President, Naga Students Union Delhi.
The angry local residents of Munirka and their Panchayat leaders with some 40-50 musclemen stormed the police station. They are shouting and roaring outside the gate for five to six hours. On the other side, students from northeast communities flocked together at the police station gate confronting the local people, who were ready for violent attacks towards the northeast people. Atlast, the police dispersed the crowd. The local people flocked together within a minute.
Right from the arrests of Mangboi, Lalboi and Lianboi, Mr. Mimin, General Secretary, KSO Delhi took the initiative and vehemently complaints the wrongful deeds of the local residents of Munirka. He even argues the police officers for their negligence shown to the northeast people. But his grievances were unheard.
Due to the efforts of KSOD General Secretary, Mangboi and his friend were atlast taken to Safdarjang hospital for medical test. The medical report clearly shows the injuries of Mangboi’s eye and his swollen face.
The SHO Ved Prakash assured that action will be taken according to law. “Those two guys who attacked the NSUD President and NSUD Senior Member will also be booked” he added.
Mr. Samuel Hmar, Ext. Coordinator, Hmar Students Association Delhi urged the students’ leaders, “We should call our friends as many as possible at this moment. A big numbers has always greater voice. We must unite in fighting for justice.”
The bike owner Mr. Siama, Mr. Luikang and Mr. Anung were also intended to file cases against the local residents of Munirka.
Unbelievingly, the local residents of Munirka can enter the gate at any time and flooded the police station, while the gate remains closed to the northeast students last night. In this regard, no cases have been registered yet till 3 am this morning.
Now the northeast communities living in Munirka felt insecure and unsafe. The Delhi Police must play their role impartially.
