New Delhi, May 27, 2010 : Today at around 7 PM a 20-year-old girl from Manipur was severely beaten by a man at Murnika, South Delhi.
Victim contacted North East Support Centre & Helpline (NESC&H) immediately from the sport. According to victim incident happened when she went for evening walk nearby parks along with friends. Culprit stood in middle of the way and attempted to provoke and seduce her. When she retaliated the man, he turned up and beaten her. She suffered injuries on her eyes and face.
Immediately NESC&H contacted Police Helpline. NE Helpline got call back from Vasant Vihar Police station and gave more details about the incident. When police did not turn up for 30 minutes, NESC&H contacted Vasant Vihar police station. Mr. Madhu Chandra, Spokes Person of NE Helpline was mocked by police officer at Vasant Vihar Police station who took the call. “He said Mizoram wale.” He mocked at Mr. Chandra over the phone by imitating the way I speak Hindi.
Matter was reported to Station House Officer of Vasant Vihar Police Station, Mr. Ved Prakash that Mr. Chandra was mocked by a police officer who attended the call and he refused to disclose his name.
NESC&H worries how much the general public from North East India living and working in Delhi even police in uniform at official duty mocked at Mr. Chandra who along with his team have been extending help to north east communities. Mr. Ved Prakash took note of my complaint and informed to ensure not to happen in future. [nehelpline]
