KNF seizes tobacco products

IMPHAL, Mar 18: A large quantity of tobacco products and mitha mana was seized by the KNF from a passenger bus (MN06D-0327) plying along Imphal-Kangpokpi route at about 9 pm yesterday.

The market value of the tobacco items which included talab, khaini, raja khaini, zarda, chini khaini, kaka khaini and mitha mana was estimated at Rs 5 lakhs.
After producing the seized items before media persons at a location in Sadar Hills today, the tobacco products were consigned to flames.

Speaking to reporters there, spokesperson of the KNF LH Stephen Kuki disclosed that the tobacco products were being transported to Imphal from Senapati by two non-locals identified as Manoj and Sanjay of Kakhulong, Imphal.

The tobacco products were seized on the way to Imphal at Kanglatongbi by KNF cadres led by Tiger Kuki.

Stephen Kuki stated that Manoj and Sanjay were involved in trading such intoxicating tobacco products on three occasions earlier. Informing that both the accused have been set free after giving them proper counselling not to indulge in such tobacco business in future, the spokesperson warned that the duo will be awarded capital punishment in case they are found trading in such tobacco products ever again.
He further sought cooperation from the public towards its campaign against intoxicants.
